FAQ
Is your quote based on hourly rate or for entirety of the production?
We will provide you based on the hourly rate, in post-production, there’s such a variety of factors that can come into play during the editing process for a project, which is why we prefer the hourly rate rather than costing for the entirety of the production. The production/client is solely responsible for the budget as we won’t take full responsibility, should the budget go over at any given time during the production.
Why would additional fees may apply with editing on Avid Media Composer or Adobe Premiere Pro?
This will be depending on the job, if the software is provided by the production or clients then no fees will apply.
If they are not provided then we would have to add the costs onto the hourly rate as Avid Media Composer and Adobe Premiere Pro are only available as a subscription service based on estimated length of the job. DaVinci Resolve Studio and Final Cut Pro for Mac are owned by the Philm Editor to use with any projects at no additional costs.
Is there any other additional fees I should be aware of?
As most jobs in post-production are generally based on short term employment, the total hourly rate will cover the hourly rate as well as other fees including equipment hire, software fees, travel time for on-site work, unpaid breaks between periods of employment and more.
What is the type of employment/contracting arrangements for the Philm Editor?
We only work based on PAYG (pay as you go) at the moment, however if the job requires an ABN, let us know and we can discuss further, please note that this would add additional costs on top of the hourly rate to cover superannuation, leave entitlements, insurances, possible loss of a termination notice, equipment hire, software fees, job security/unpaid breaks in between periods of employment and more.
How many hours a week would you be willing to work for? How about 50 hours?
This will be depending on the job, the film industry typically allows 50 hours working weeks (based on 38 standard hours + 12 hours of additional overtime work).
That doesn’t mean that post-production work should be 50 hours (or more!) a week.
With my skills and experience, 38 hours is more than enough, though if more hours are required to complete the job, then that is something we can discuss further.
Why is there so many questions in this FAQ?
Personally I wished that was the case, however I’d rather be open and upfront with as many details as possible and by doing so gives me more confidence within myself based on the information I have early on in the process to be able to perform the role needed for you.
